Kalanag’s 1960 special on the series International Showtime, hosted by classic actor Don Ameche, featured his elaborate stage show, a pageant of exotic costumes, scenery, and dancers presenting routines ranging from intimate apparatus effects to large stage illusions.
Walking through the midst of these action-filled scenes was an unlikely star: Kalanag, a genial, portly former Nazi filmmaker from Germany also known as Helmut Schreiber (1903-1963).
You will be amazed by Kalanag’s famous levitation, a combination of several phases and methods that has puzzled experts for years!
Bonus materials include two appearances on "The Wayne and Schuster Show" in 1958, silent color footage of his show, and film of his beautiful assistant Gloria DeVos with a leopard!
All chapters on the DVD are accessible through a complete menu.
This DVD was created in collaboration with William McIlhany, who previously released this material on VHS. (Note: The Kalanag color film also appears on our Mystic Craig's Camera set.)
