Fred Keating (1898-1961) revolutionized twentieth-century magic with his combination of precise sleight-of-hand (his teacher was the great Nate Leipzig) and sarcastic humor. His 1920s vaudeville career and one-man theater shows helped define the modern magician of his time.
In the 1930s, Keating snappy wit, handsome looks, and acting skills led him to Hollywood, where he starred in a dozen Hollywood features. Three of them are included here: The Devil on Horseback (1936), When’s Your Birthday? (1937), and Prison Train (1938).
Keating performed magic in many of his movies. Here, you’ll see him demonstrate his sleight-of-hand with cards, bills, eggs, and more. Through his interesting roles, you’ll also experience the humor and theatricality that made Fred Keating such a prominent force in the magic world.
The set includes a clip of Keating in the 1939 magic-themed movie Eternally Yours, as well as galleries of rare images.
